Somatic Skills Group
This group aims to support clinicians interested in somatics to deepen their understanding of their own nervous systems, physiological responses, and utilize this awareness in therapeutic contexts through transference and countertransference dynamics. We will practice somatic based exercises in a large group setting with some opportunities to have small group discussions.
This group is designed to help therapists develop their own language and sensory maps for understanding their nervous system. It is not a process or psychological group. The focus is on enhancing interoception of both inner and outer states to foster embodied awareness. While it complements Level One's psychoeducation, it can be taken at any stage of the mentorship program.
Theoretical Focus: this approach centers on somatic-based practices as well as relational and attachment focused practices.

Structure: each week, the group leader will guide participants through a somatic activity. At the end of the session, participants will have the chance to process and integrate their experiences with the group. Members will also practice these activities with fellow clinicians to explore how their nervous systems respond to different personalities. We will engage in exercises to distinguish our own physiological responses from those mirrored from others. This practice will help clinicians learn to separate their experiences from those of their clients and use somatic awareness to inform their work.

*This group has been run in the past. This group, however, is the pilot group for clinicians and may extend past the 12 week planned curriculum to develop activities that suit the unique needs of therapists. Members can decide to leave this group at any time.
**This group is NOT a therapy group. We ask that all members have some sort of support outside of this group. Some find somatic work to be activating, particularly those who experience dissociation from their bodies. If this group is too activating for you, we recommend utilizing your mental health supports to find stabilization before returning to the group.
